About:

Kitsap County Search Dogs, Olympic Mountain Rescue and Washington Explorer Search and Rescue - Kitsap Unit, will be hosting the award-winning and locally produced film ‘Where the Rope Ends’ at SEEFilm Cinemas in downtown Bremerton at 6 p.m. on April 25, as well as a fundraising raffle, which will include items from outdoor gear companies and local businesses.

The film features Nichole Doane, a Seattle area trauma nurse who found herself suspended 100 feet above the ground after a rappelling error. It was in this terrifying moment that she had a profound mental transformation, which not only spared her life but also became her guiding light during the challenging journey of recovery following her harrowing fall.

The making of the film itself was a transformative 7-year journey, and tells the story not only of Doane’s long recovery, but also of the amazing local area Search and Rescue team that saved her.

Kitsap’s three Search and Rescue organizations have decided to combine forces in this event (outside of working together on missions) to educate the public about their work in the community, as well as raise funds to keep their all-volunteer work going. Funds will be split evenly between the three groups, and will be used in a variety of ways, including for Olympic Mountain Rescue, which is currently saving up for a new truck.

Kitsap County Search Dogs is a 100% volunteer and 100% donation-funded K9 Search and Rescue organization dedicated to providing specialized canines and trained personnel to local law enforcement, assisting with locating lost, injured or missing persons and victims of natural or man-made disasters. Based in Kitsap County, the unit responds to search requests throughout the state of Washington.

Olympic Mountain Rescue (OMR) specializes in backcountry search and rescue, ranging from technical mountain terrain to bushwhacking to trail searching. Though most of OMR’s work takes place on the Olympic Peninsula, the team often operates in conjunction with other Washington state rescue units along the Cascades, from Mt. St. Helens to Mt. Baker, as well as with its local colleagues.

Washington Explorer Search and Rescue (WESAR) – Kitsap Unit is the primary ground search and rescue unit in Kitsap County. The unit assists local law enforcement in locating missing persons such as hikers, children, and individuals affected by dementia; locating law enforcement evidence related to a crime; and responding to natural disasters and other catastrophic events. WESAR also frequently responds to searches throughout Washington state.
