Leading on Rock Course

An application is required to participate in the course (see the "Apply" button to the right under registration).  Applications are due no later than November 11, 2026 at which time registration will close.  Complete applications should be emailed to rvancil68@gmail.com.  You will be contacted by November 14, 2026 to let you know the results of the application process.  

In the course we teach you to advance from a basic level climber where you followed the lead climber to where you are competently lead mid 5th class rock climbs. We teach SRENE anchor building, climbing techniques, clipping bolts, selecting trad gear, placing trad gear, block leading and swinging leads to provide you the tools to get into lead climbing.

All students must complete the course with significant investment of time climbing outside of the listed course field trips (likely both in the gym and outdoors).

The Outdoor Leadership course is additionally required for graduation.

The course also requires 1 day participation as an instructor in the Kitsap Basic Climbing Course Activity 13 - Basic Rock 2 (For 2026 it is scheduled for Saturday June 6).

Please Note for Course Field Trips:  Leavenworth May 2-3 is an optional field trip to give students more time for climb practice.  This optional field trip is highly recommended for students attempting to complete the course in 2026.  Leavenworth field trips on May 30th and 31st are only for students attempting to complete the course in 2026 and each student climbs on only one day - e.g. to complete in 2026 a student will do their Leavenworth climb on either the 24th or the 25th.
