Alpine Scrambling Course - Kitsap - Field Trip 2 - Mount Ellinor

Time to get used to snow travel and how to stay safe on snow slopes.

  • Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,270 ft

TBD; meeting palce will preferably by Hurricane ridge, with the bottom of the Ellinor chute being the 2nd option if the Lower TH is accessable; if needed we will use Snoqualimine East.

we will start by practicing walking in crampons and then find a good short snow slope with a good runout to pratice ice axe self-arrest; we will cover these four starting postions (1) feet down facing in, (2) feet down facing out (glissade postion), (3) head down facing down and (4) head down facing up. If there's time we will do an easy snow scamble afterwards.
