September Hikes: 4 to 8 miles, 750 to 2,000 feet gain

Field trip: GoHike: Beginner Hiking Course

September Hikes: 4 to 8 miles, 750 to 2,000 feet gain - Green Mountain: Gold Creek Trail

Gorgeous madronas and rhododendrons line the trail, as well as a generous helping of salal closer to the forest floor. This hike counts toward your monthly required GoHike course September trips.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,639 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2mph

We will make a few stops along the route for clothing adjustments and snacks. The only restrooms are at the trailhead.  The trail has a loop in the middle and some alternate loop options along the way. The trail also passes alongside a picnic area with restrooms near a forest road. The trail is partially shaded, with some views of the Hood Canal, Lake Tahuya, and the Olympics on a clear day in the logged areas.

My walk style is social, nature-focused, and collaborative. We will take regular breaks and encourage going at a pace where you can still talk. The group will stay together and move at the pace of the slowest person.

I encourage you to tune into the quiet of the forest and your fellow GoHikers. Please feel free to bring a charged phone and take pictures but refrain from taking or making phone calls while on the trail unless absolutely necessary.

Further details will be sent out in a Hello Hiker email on Sept 1. Registration closes on Sept 4.

Meet at Gold Creek TH parking lot at 10:00am A Discover pass is required for each vehicle. Plan to arrive at the meeting point ready to begin at the posted start time. This means arriving by 9:45 for an introductory talk before we hit the trail at 10AM.
