May GoHike Urban Walk: 3 to 5.5 miles, 300 to 1,250 feet gain (optional) - Washington Park, Little Cranberry Lake & Big Beaver Pond

Washington Park, a City of Anacortes Park, sits on a peninsula at the west end of Fidalgo Island. A scenic paved 2.2-mile loop road winds through the park’s forested hills and meadows with views of the San Juan Islands and Olympic Mountains and is closed to vehicle traffic until 10 am. Our trip will combine traveling on the road combined with some of the parks lovely trail system. This hike counts toward your monthly required GoHike course May trips.

This is a casual paced trip that will include portions of the scenic road and park trails for a 3.5-4 miles, with less than 300' of gain. We will enjoy staying together as a group, taking pictures, admiring nature, checking out the beach if the tides are good and enjoying the views. You should be comfortable being on a paved road (with no vehicles) and dirt, rock and rooty (typical) trails.

We will plan to stop after the trip for a brunch/lunch social. This is highly encouraged but is optional.

No permit is required here.

Meet at the Playground Parking area at 8:00am. this is an early start to take advantage of the scenic road being closed to vehicular traffic until 10 am. Restrooms near out meeting location.
