This is an urban hike that will help you figure out your baseline pace. I scouted this trail out recently. Things to be prepared for: This trail has a lot of roots which are very slippery when wet outside. (think slips, trips, ankle turns). It is also very muddy in places when raining or in a recent rainfall. Some points of the trails are narrow along the ridgeline of the canyon. It is essential that you do not wear athletic shoes. You will need hiking trail runners or hiking boots. Poles are recommended for those who need help with balance and to reduce impact on knees and hips.
The first .6 miles is a descent to the waterfront, descending about 380 feet. Then after a small section of the waterfront to enjoy waterfront views, we begin an ascent of about .6 miles to flatter terrain again. Finishing off the loop with some gentle rolling terrain to end where we started. If we go at the course minimum pace of 1.5, this will take us approximately 2.5 hours, without breaks. So expect that this pace hike will be around a 3-3.5 - hour commitment.
I'll range from 1.5 - 2.5 and by the end of the 3.6 mile route, you should have a good foundation to start from. I recommend you bring your full pack as that is what you will most likely be carrying for most of the GoHike trips. It will give you a better sense on if extra weight on your back impacts your pace at all. We will stop for a couple of short breaks, but since it's a short route, the main stopping point will be the bank of Lake Washington.
More information will be sent out to you a few days before the trip. I expect you to read the entire email and respond that you understand what is expected so you can get the most out of our time. Looking forward to meeting you!
