August Hikes: 4 miles to 7 miles, 600 to 2,000 feet gain - Mima Falls

The Mima Falls Loop in the Capitol State Forest takes hikers through young plantings, lush forest, quiet wetlands, and a waterfall! There are multiple types of forest foliage in this working forest. This hike counts toward your monthly required GoHike course August trips.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 650 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 650 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2

We will be hiking the Mima Falls campground trails in a loop through the Capitol State Forest.  We will make a few stops along the route for clothing adjustments and snacks. There are pit toilets at   the trailhead.

My walk style is social, nature-focused, and collaborative. We will take regular breaks and encourage going at a pace where you can still talk. The group will stay together and move at the pace of the slowest person, and observe trail etiquette when encountering other trail users. There is a picnic spot along the way that we can stop for a snack break.

I encourage you to tune into the quiet of the forest and your fellow GoHikers. Please feel free to bring a charged phone and take pictures but refrain from taking or making phone calls while on the trail unless absolutely necessary.

Further details will be sent out in a Hello Hiker email on Aug 18. Registration closes on Aug 21.

Meet at the Mima Falls Trailhead parking lot at 9:15AM. A Discover pass is required for each vehicle. Plan to arrive at the meeting point ready to begin at the posted start time. This means arriving by 9:15 for an introductory talk before we hit the trail at 9:30AM. Carpooling encouraged, although the parking lot holds about 30 cars.
