August Hikes: 4 miles to 7 miles, 600 to 2,000 feet gain - Cougar Mountain Loop

Field trip: GoHike: Beginner Hiking Course

August Hikes: 4 miles to 7 miles, 600 to 2,000 feet gain - Cougar Mountain Loop

Coal Creek waterfalls are nestled in a lush forest. They cascade down rugged rocks and boulders. As we hike beneath the cooling forest canopy, we'll hear the sounds of nearby creeks feeding the falls. Traverse picturesque boardwalks that wind over the wetlands. We'll take a break near the humble Doughty Falls (pic). Water sometimes gently trickles over a large glacial erratic boulder there. There are inviting steps and logs to rest on. It's the perfect opportunity to fulfill your monthly GoHike course requirement for August.

8:00 am at Sky Country Trailhead, boots on and ready to hit the trails! You can spot me by my white Subaru Crosstrek—I'll be there with the trunk popped, ready to meet by my car. See you there! Here is the Google Maps link. https://maps.app.goo.gl/g9k5S19AV27fZjhc6

Directions: From I-90, take Exit 13 and drive south on Lakemont Blvd SE for 2.5 miles. Turn left on SE Cougar Mountain Way and then right on 166th Way SE. Follow 166th Way SE just under a mile to the end. On the right is the Sky Country Trailhead parking lot.

This will be a stay-in-sight group.
Please note the pace is 1.75-2 (given the mileage). It's important you are comfortable with that minimum pace. We'll be slower on the ascents and faster on gentle terrain.
If you need anything, like a "party separation" from the group, or pack adjustment, please speak up. Let's work together to ensure a friendly and enjoyable hike for everyone.

Remember to bring boots with good traction, and poles are always advised.
