Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Royal Basin

This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on a challenging overnight backpack with an experienced mentor. Priority registration will be given to Becca and Jason's Mentor Group. Other students may request leaders permission as space allows. Please see Leader's Notes.

Meeting Place: Upper Dungeness TH

Time: Please arrive by 8:30 am at the TH and be ready for boots on the trail at 9 am.  Please see Edmond Kingston Ferry Schedule for early departure time or plan accordingly if you plan to drive around.

Cost of the permits will be split amongst the group. Registered members will be responsible for their share of the permit cost 1 week prior to the trip.  Payment can be made via paypal, venmo, zelle or cash.  Further details in the hello hiker.

America the Beautiful Pass Required.

This will be a moderate backpack starting at the Upper Dungeness trailhead and following the trail up to the Royal Lake Group Camp. We will travel at a moderate pace and set up camp at Royal Lake. Optional side trip to upper Royal Lake Saturday afternoon.

We are still early in the season for this trek so be prepared for downed trees and some rough trail conditions. There may still be snow on trail in some areas. 

Please note we will be within Olympic National Park boundaries which means bear cans will be required for this trip. 

REQESTING LEADERS PERMISSON:

Please include dates and location of your last 3 hikes/backpacking trips. B3 students can request leaders permission starting  5/15/2023. Please do not request leaders permisson prior to May 15th.
