The focus will be lower-to-raise. You are a rope leader in a climb with 2 rope teams of 3 and the climb leader fell in a crevasse. The climb leader's rope team managed to arrest the fall and transfer the load to a snow anchor, and then your rope team arrived at the scene. The 2 climbers that arrested the fall are tired, so your rope team of 3 will perform the rescue. Needless to say, you don't trust their anchor and need to place yours.
- If needed, we can start the day with a brief demo of the entire small party rescue scenario for lower-to-raise.
- After splitting the students into 2 rescue teams, students will alternate between the roles of: subject (fallen climber), attendant/first aid, and mainline operator/controller (lowers the attendant, converts the system to raise, and then raises the two people from inside the crevasse).
- An instructor will play the safety/belayer (communicates, checks, and operates the belay line).
Best weather day. Eastgate Park and Ride to consolidate cars. Need a minimum number of cars with permits for the Alpental Ski Area; else, will discuss options.
