Stewardship - Rattlesnake Ledge

The King County Noxious Weeds Control Program invites lovers of the outdoors to learn how to identify and remove invasive plants and to do trail surveys to find noxious weed infestations when they are small.

When: Friday, May 27. We will meet at the North Bend Ranger Station at 9:30 am. We will return to the ranger station at 2:30 pm.

This "Advanced Noxious Weed Identification Hike"will be an unusual weed hike. We will be visiting a number of sites in the general Rattlesnake Lake area where noxious weed infestations have been in the past. This is an effort to get Weed Watchers familiar with rare but high-priority weeds in a real life context.

King County's Weed Watchers Program trains volunteers to identify, map and control invasive species along backcountry trails and campsites. Volunteers gain skills in plant identification, enjoy scenic hikes and contribute important data to the U.S. Forest Service. The goal of our group hikes is to get people confident with surveying trails so they can do surveys independently. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcomed.

Don’t forget: Dress for the weather, whatever that will be. Don’t forget sunblock. Bring your allergy medications and tell us about any allergies or medical conditions you have. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Bring plenty of water for the day, a lunch and plenty of snacks to keep you going. Survey forms, your smartphone and weed identification guides will be good if you want to follow along and practice.
