Giving Tuesday 2024

Replenish the Mountaineers Access Program scholarship fund this Giving Tuesday. All donations to The Mountaineers on Giving Tuesday will provide direct financial assistance to help youth and adults access outdoor education and experiences through scholarships.

December 3 is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. We need to refill the Mountaineers Access Program (MAP) scholarship fund to continue this important program in 2025.

A special invitation from the family of Jeff Bowman

This week also marks the one-year anniversary of the unexpected passing of a beloved Mountaineer. Jeff Bowman was a 29-year member and volunteer, and 23-year staff member who contributed immeasurably to helping people gain confidence and find joy outside. Like our scholarship program, you can see Jeff’s impact across every aspect of our community: from his role as climb leader and lodge host, to his contributions to Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, to the vast online infrastructure that supports every trip, course, and program we offer.

To honor Jeff’s memory, his family will match every Giving Tuesday donation up to $20,000. This is big. We have never before raised this amount on Giving Tuesday and we are determined to rise to the challenge. If you are ready to join and double the impact of your donation, you can make your Giving Tuesday donation early!

Mark your calendar to donate after Thanksgiving or check it off your list now with an early donation

MAP increases access to outdoor recreation, education, and conservation for youth and adults through scholarships, Mountain Workshops, and more. Scholarships help people of all ages learn new skills and find belonging outdoors.

It's so important because many people feel outmatched, outclassed, and out of their comfort zone in the wild. The community offered through the Mountaineers is as important, maybe more important, than the costs of actual equipment.

-Jasmin*, parent of scholarship recipient, Stevens Lodge Summer Camp

When to donate to have the most impact

Early giving for Giving Tuesday is open NOW. By reaching the match we hope to raise $40,000 for MAP before midnight on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Any donation on our Giving Tuesday donation page or sent with the note "Giving Tuesday" before then will count!

As a frequent hiker, I value the opportunity to "level-up" up my skills in a safe and informative atmosphere through the scrambling program. So much more of the outside world is now accessible to me given these new skills and I am so grateful. Thank you for helping to keep outdoor sports/activities open to all, regardless of income.

- Hannah, scholarship recipient, Scrambling Course

How to Participate

  • Online at our special Giving Tuesday donation page.
  • Make your gift from a donor advised fund (DAF) or retirement fund using our Tax ID: 27-3009280
  • Submit your volunteer hours or payroll donation through your employer's matching gift program.
  • Choose an elevated membership such as Peak Society ($1,000) or Ridgeline ($500)

Thanks to the scholarship, our family was able to try out all that the Mountaineers have to offer as new members - and now we're planning on becoming life long members! I'm so thankful to be able to raise my kids in this great community. Thank you!

- Naomi*, scholarship recipient, Family Membership and Family Programs
