Heather “Anish” Anderson has thru-hiked the U.S.'s mega trails—the Appalachian, the Continental Divide, and the Pacific Crest—three times. In her debut memoir, Thirst, published in 2019, Heather details her experience about her record-breaking hike on the PCT. Now, she lets us in on her account of her self-supported fastest known time journey on the AT in 2015. With a great deal of heart and grit, Mud, Rocks, Blazes: Letting Go on the Appalachian Trail gives a rare look into the vulnerabilities of an incredible athlete. In conversation with Heather is adventurer and author Jennifer Pharr Davis, who set the fastest known time on the Appalachian Trail in 2011 completing it in 46 days.
