10 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE MOUNTAINEERS?

I wanted to learn how to graduate from hiking to scrambling and climbing in a safe manner. The large number of classes that provide in-depth teaching, rather than just a weekend out, made The Mountaineers the best option to be a lifelong learner of mountain things.

WHY DO YOU LIKE GETTING OUTSIDE WITH US?

Primarily the group dynamics that a Mountaineers trip brings. There's usually someone more knowledgeable than me that can teach me something, someone less knowledgeable that I can teach something, and someone who knows a lot about the local plants or animals, which is always my favorite person on the trip.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MOUNTAINEERS MEMORY?

My first hiking trip with The Mountaineers out to Shriner Peak by Rainier. It was late fall and started snowing towards the top. No views of Rainier that day but it was super fun to have an early season snowfall and get to trudge along in the snow with the group.

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

The volunteer leaders, especially my Basic instructor this year, Magda Bojarska. All the leaders in both the Scrambling and Basic Climbing course have been so stoked to pass on their knowledge to the students. They give a ton of time and effort to allow others to learn new and exciting skills and how to safely recreate in the mountains.

WHAT DOES ADVENTURE MEAN TO YOU?

Experiencing something that makes me feel small. That can be in the middle of an ocean, at the top of a peak, under an eclipse, or at the foot of an old growth tree. Adventure to me is anything that gives me just a bit of an existential crisis comparing myself and my existence to something so old or massive that it simply dwarfs me.

LIGHTNING ROUND!

Sunrise or Sunset? Sunrise
We all know about the Ten Essentials. What's your 11th essential? Honey Stingers
What’s your happy place? Mountain tops or getting back to the car after a rainy slog
Post-adventure meal of choice? Pizza and ice cream!
If you could be a rockstar at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Probably skiing. Learning as an adult is kinda rough.
