10 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH THE MOUNTAINEERS?

My dad wanted me to join some kind of outdoor club when we moved to Seattle because we planned to stay in the area for a long time. He knew we could commit to learning with an organization.

WHY DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN MOUNTAINEERS YOUTH PROGRAMS?

I love having the opportunity to get outside with really cool people. It’s great having the plan made for you and easy access to the gear you need to get outside.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MOUNTAINEERS MEMORY?

I went backpacking on the North Coast Trail. We had all set up camp and gone to bed, but my dad woke me up and took me down to the water. Almost everyone in our group was up because there was bioluminescence in the water. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I often think about this memory when I’m trying to relax or calm myself down after something stressful.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND WHY?

Backpacking and climbing are tied as favorite for me. I climb all the time, and taking my climbing outside with friends is really fun and challenging, but I also like the beautiful views and accomplished feeling that comes with backpacking.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED AT THE MOUNTAINEERS THAT YOU HAVE APPLIED TO OTHER PARTS OF YOUR LIFE?

Learning these skills and helping teach others has made me very comfortable in my own skin. I carry myself differently and talk to others with more confidence. This has helped my school and social life tremendously.
