10 Essential Questions:
What first brought you to The Mountaineers?
Sought climbing and adventure friends when moving back to greater Seattle.
Why do you like getting outside with us?
There is joy in movement outside and a steady stream of the novel in both the cultural and natural world. And I love to put in new routes!
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
Standing glissades down snow packs contrasts nicely with urban night walks when the moon is rising and the dogs are howling.
Who/What inspires you?
My wife, Nancy, ever the smallest on our scores of walks and treks but tough, kind, and curious no matter the challenge. We've become harmonious co-leaders and explorers no matter the weather, the altitude, the culture, the language (or the time to supper).
I'm looking for folks in their 90s for role models as this decade slips by. And grateful for the fleet of kids and grandkids who share our adventures.
What does adventure mean to you?
Perpetual curiosity about the trail ahead and the satisfaction of finishing the day - no matter the planned outcome.
Lightning round
Sunrise or sunset? Sunrise
Smile or game face? Smile
What’s your 11th essential? Traffic wands for urban night walks
What's your happy place? Toss up between a good book in my favorite chair and any place where the pace flirts with 3mph as the landscape rolls past
Post-adventure meal of choice? Burgerville berry shake and burger with the works
