10 Essential Questions:

What first brought you to The Mountaineers?

I was encouraged to join The Mountaineers by one of my coworkers. He had taken a scrambling course and thought that I would enjoy the hiking series. I was looking for people to hike with and the organization's hiking programs, like GoHike, seemed perfect!

Why do you like getting outside with us?

I like getting outside with The Mountaineers because I get to meet such a wide variety of people. I work from home, so I appreciate the opportunity to meet new people!

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

My favorite memory is completing the May Valley Short Loop last May after turning around in May 2024. It was pouring rain, I had gotten stinging nettles on my thigh, and my boots were squelching with water, but I had such a sense of accomplishment. Shout out to Kelly Chaddock for supporting me as the leader on both hikes!

Who/What inspires you?

I’m inspired by progress, no matter how small. Last year I wasn’t in as good of shape as I had thought, and I finished the GoHike Series feeling a bit disappointed. Then, I lost 30lbs in the off season and was able to do so much more this year. Every extra mile and extra 100ft of elevation gain keeps me motivated!

What does adventure mean to you?

For me, adventure means getting outside and discovering something new! Going to a new trail, seeing an amazing view, finding unique flowers or mushrooms, or driving a bumpy forest road - it’s all an adventure!

What’s your 11th essential? A camera (either my iPhone or my trusty Nikon D7200 is always with me on the trail!)
