...with each story [Meany Lodge] grew more alive: local ski slopes named (non-posthumously) after notorious lodgers and an associated incident, ashes of someone special buried beneath one of the property buildings, names of beloved lodge stewards whose legacies still breathe life throughout the walls. Even the personal touches – like the painted mural above the kitchen or the stack of board games whose worn edges indicated years’ worth of entertained use – seemed to be inviting us to make ourselves at home.

Like our Mountaineers lodges, stewarded with care and home to members from all walks of life, this edition's stories celebrate where spaces of community and belonging shine bright within our organization, as well as nudge us toward where they have room to grow.
In these pages, we delight in the smiles shared among friends amid inclement weather, discover the wonders that arise when we embrace our own pace, cozy up in the welcoming atmosphere of our outdoor centers, find confidence through learning spaces that encourage us to show up authentically, and more. As you flip through this edition, we hope these stories serve as a reminder that whoever you are, and whatever the weather, our community welcomes you with open arms.
Publishing update: Starting in 2026, Mountaineer magazine will shift its publishing frequency from four times a year to three. You can expect to receive the magazine in December, April, and August of each year. We appreciate our dedicated readers and contributors who continue to share and be inspired by our community’s stories.
