10 ESSENTIALS: QUESTIONS

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE MOUNTAINEERS?

I went to the 25th Anniversary talk on the Peace Climb of Mt. Everest. I had been climbing and backpacking for some time, and realized that this would be a great organization where I could improve my skills and make adventure friends!

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET OUTSIDE WITH US?

I really value the friendships and people I have met along the way. I am always so excited to get to spend time with a great group of people.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MOUNTAINEERS MEMORY?

Intense Basic was the best 9 days I have ever spent with The Mountaineers. The final field trip over Labor Day weekend is my fondest memory - a long weekend of climbing with some really great humans. After spending a solid 9 days with the same people, learning new skills and repeatedly putting our lives in each other’s hands, we had become so close. The final field trip was a big party with all those people we had bonded with. Two days of early morning alarms, my first basic rock climb (which my sister was on with me!), a spicy long-distance scramble and one relaxing day at the crags. It was just a perfect way to top off all the skills we had learned and get to spend more time together. Not to mention a great potluck at Tom Vogl’s cabin!

WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Any one whose stoke level is over a 10 all the time, while still being safe! I also love fantasy and dress up - when I can combine worlds I am always super excited.  One of our Intense Basic leaders, Rob Bursak, set up basement practices for us through the fall and winter, and one of those nights fell on the week of Halloween. That meant Cinderella got to practice crevasse rescue!

WHAT DOES ADVENTURE MEAN TO YOU?

Somewhere out of cell service, sore and tired, smiling and laughing with my climbing partner(s).

LIGHTNING ROUND
Sunrise or sunset? Sunset.
Smile or game face? Smile.
What's your happy place? Above \ tree line.
Post-adventure meal of choice? Pizza.

If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Telemark skiing.
