Sea Kayak - San Juan Islands Archipelago - Moved to Hood Canal

Due to one of the ferry's service outage, we move the trip to Hood Canal. Despite the last minute change, we had a enjoyable time in a pretty area.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We camped at Seal Rock Campground. Saturday we launched from Point Whitney, paddle up into Quilcene Bay, then back to camp. We saw huge numbers of eagles, one tree had 4 eagles in it. The area around Pulali Point was particular pretty, the water was clear and we could look down 30 ft or so and see the fish and kelp.
On Sunday we paddled south from camp to Quatsap Point. The tide was very low, so we had to go way out to get around Dosewallips spit. We had staged cars at Triton cove, but with a stiff headwind we decided to return to the camp. Along the way back we poked into Pleasant harbor, which lived up to its name.
There were lots of oysters at the camp, unfortunately we didn't bring a knife or get permits so that will have to wait until next time.
