Cross-country Ski - Methow Valley Winter Trails

A must-do ski tour in the Sun Mountain area: Thompson Ridge. A challenging but very rewarding trip

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • The road to Sun Mountain is well plowed and sanded, but there can be icy sections, so care is needed when driving there from Winthrop.

    The trails were nicely groomed for both classic and skate skiing and there is a warming hut and porta-potties at the Chickadee trailhead

The trail starts up Thompson Road, which is a gradual, but long and steady up until you reach Thompson ridge with beautiful views.  

There is a nice descent to Meadow lark, and then we took Blue Jay trail, with a series of ups and downs.  You finish the loop and connect back to Thompson Road, and have a wonderful long, gradual downhill back to the trailhead.
