Trip Report

Barclay Lake

Perfect sunny fall day. Not too busy. Lots of mushrooms.

  • Barclay Lake
  • Day Hiking
  • Successful
  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Dry trail. Lots of mushrooms.

The road up is suitable for all cars but has a few potholes. When we arrived to the parking lot around 11:30am there were about 15 cars back on the road from the parking lot; however, we were able to grab some spots in the parking lot as some people just left. The outhouse at the trailhead is probably one of the worst smelling i’ve used. While the parking lot was busy we rarely saw any people on the trail; however, there were soooo many mushrooms - probably at least 15 different varieties. Despite it being sunny out, the trail is a little darker due to tree coverage. We finally got to the lake and went left towards the campsites and headed down towards the lake to hangout for a few minutes, skip some rocks and eat some lunch. There weren’t more than a handful of people at the lake and a father-son duo fishing. We only stayed about 30 minutes though as the second the sun went behind Mt. Baring it instantly got cold. We hurried back down to the trail to the parking lot in no time at all. Trail was dry. Perfect easy hike to find and study mushrooms with our kids (10 and 11yo), friends and their 7mo. baby in a carrier, their mom and sister. Can’t beli it was this sunny in October!!
