Naturalist Trip - Whidbey Island West Shore
Whidbey Island is a great place to view ducks wintering in the area and view continental glacial deposits. We will visit 2 to 4 Whidbey Island sites starting in the south and working our way north.

This is primarily a birding trip. Our first stop will be Deer Lagoon, an excellent birding spot. We will then continue to Double Bluff and Useless Bay. The bluff represents one of the best exposures (outcrops) of continental galcier deposits in Puget Sounds. I will explain the glacial history. For both spots we will do a bit of walking.
We may drive north and visit a couple more spots as time allows.
Bring your binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one.
The weather can be a bit cold, rainy and windy so dress accordingly. You will be fully exposed, in the open, to weather conditions.
I will check the weather report a couple days before the trip. If the wind is greater than about 10 mph or there is a high chance of rain, I will probably cancel the trip.
7:30 am at the 65th Street Park and Ride to carpool to the 8:30 am Mukilteo Ferry. We can also do group emails to pick alternate carpooling points. We want to limit the number of cars due to parking limitations at some sites.
