Join me for a last-minute, choose-your-own-distance run in Discovery Park to celebrate the shortest day of the year! It looks we'll have a precipitation break just after sunrise for a couple hours (see updated forecast here) so let's take advantage of the gaps between the raindrops!

I will be running a total of 12 miles, but in 4-mile loops, circling back to our starting point (.gpx file with track to be sent in separate email). I will set up the loops such that if you want to run only 4 or 8 miles you will have the opportunity to end your run at the South parking lot at either of the 4-mile intervals before the 12-mile finish (and still be counted as "Successful" for the activity). We'll power-hike up stairs and longer hills, run the flats and downhills, traveling as a group and at a comfortable pace, meaning we're still able to maintain a conversation. If you're wondering about whether or not this run is a good fit for you, please email me with your questions and concerns!

Pace: 4-5mph (continuous movement but not racing)

The activity will go rain or shine. If it ends up being windy, I'll adjust the route to keep us in the more open and new growth areas to avoid falling debris.

Vault toilet at trailhead.

Parking pass not required.

While on-leash dogs are allowed at Discovery Park, for safety they will not be allowed on our run.

8a at the South Parking Lot near the information sign at the SW corner of the lot. Be ready to run by 8:10a

Required Equipment

  • The Ten Essentials but err on the side of less first aid (due to being frontcountry) and more warm clothes due to rain as well as additional hydration and calories due to the distance, especially if you're doing the full 12 miles.
  • Sturdy running shoes
  • Sunrise is at 7:55a so we shouldn't need headlamps
