Day Hike - West Tiger #1 Loop via Bootleg and Preston Trails

A less-traveled route and an early start to hopefully avoid some of the weekend Tiger crowds, but still enjoy what may be POSSIBLY some good views. 2400' gain and overall steep, so please be in shape and ready for that. Even with recent dry weather, there may be mud, including in some of the steep parts.

Preston Trail to Lower, Mid, and Upper Bootleg. Descend via Preston, so 2 clock-wise loops. GPX file will be provided in advance to participants.

There may be a few muddy spots. There will definitely be steep, so poles recommended.  Due to the strenuous nature of this hike, Mountaineer members, or guests of participating members, only, please. No guests otherwise.

I've done this hike before but not recently. All the trails and junctions can be challenging to navigate.  So please be willing to help with navigation or be patient at junctions where we're not sure.

Please have hiked something with a similar altitude gain recently.

There will be some view from W Tiger #1 Summit. IF we ALL want to saunter over to W Tiger #2, there will be slightly different views there. But everyone in the group must agree to that side trip. Anyone has veto power.

Here's a forecast for 2800'

We will generally stay in voice and visual contact, at least with the person ahead and behind you. And we'll stop and regroup at all junctions, of which there are several. So if like to go your own pace, please don't sign up. Thank you.

Plan to spend 20 - 30 minutes at the summit, so please bring clothes, food, and anticipation of that.

We will meet at the Preston Trail trailhead at 8:15 am.
(WTA directions: "From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 22. Turn right onto SE 82nd and then right again onto Preston Way. Look for a trailhead with no parking on the lefthand side of the road. If you reach the DOT facility you have gone too far.")
There are no restrooms but a lot of trees and bushes and not much traffic. WTA says you need a Discover Pass. That may not be correct, but park there without one at your own risk
