Day Hike - Tubal Cain Mine
Tull Canyon & Big Quilcene River valley overlook via Tubal Cain trailhead. The 6200' ridge offers a great view of Gargoyle Ridge peaks and Mt. Constance beyond. Despite the title, this is not a hike to the mine.

This is not a trip to Tubal Cain mine, even though it starts at the same trailhead and follows the Tubal Cain trail for a few miles before reaching the trail to Tull Canyon, probably better known as the site of the 1952 B-17 wreck and "Tull City."
We'll pass the few remaining fragments of the wreck and some remains of Tull City on our way up valley. Our goal is an overlook at roughly 6200' on the ridge between Mt. Worthington (6900') and Hawk Peak (6530'), above the Big Quilcene River valley. The near view across the river valley is of Gargoyle Ridge, with Turret & Minaret almost at eye level. Beyond the ridge is a view of NW Mt. Constance and many others. Iron Mt. 6800', is less than a mile away.
This is about 10.5 miles round trip and 3000' of elevation gain. The trail gains elevation steadily the entire way. The last half mile up to the ridge is on a steep climber's way trail/goat path, but you don't need to use your hands and it doesn't rise to the level of scrambling.
The pace will be around 1.5-2.0 mph avg including stops. This will take roughly 6 hours overall, including a break for lunch.
Meet at the Tubal Cain trailhead at 0830. Leave parking area NLT 0845.
