Day Hike - Sourdough Gap

A Naturalists loop hike in the scenic Chinook Pass area which is already in full flower this year.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,000 ft

Providing there are enough people to have at least two cars we will leave from Chinook Pass and hike past Sheep Lake, Sourdough Pass, and Crystal Lakes Pass to return via the Crystal Lakes trail to 410. A car shuttle of about 15 miles will be required. This entire area is already vibrantly in full flower except in some of the shadier areas, and is free of snow along the trails. Our pace will vary as is typical of Naturalists hikes but in general will be moderate.

The weather as seen from ten days out should be cool under an as yet unknown degree of influence from a relatively weak trough of low pressure. Rainfall, if any, does not look to be heavy. Nonetheless, if the weather forecast deteriorates, we may put this trip off to a later time.

Meet at Ravenna P&R underneath I-5 at 65th north at 6:30 AM. Be visible opposite the expresso stand in the portion of the P&R north of 65th.
