This walk in a nature preserve is one in a series of hikes going an easy distance at a moderate pace, usually about 2 mph, and moderate elevation gain, typically 100 feet per r/t mile, which may be agreeable to those who are rehabbing an injury or just getting back into shape. Folks just wanting an easy hike that doesn't take all day are welcome. Although it is a short hike, please bring a snack and water.
Let's meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Haggens supermarket parking lot in west Olympia, at 1313 Cooper Point Road and Black Lake Blvd, across the parking lot from the main entrance, and near the white ballot drop and US mail boxes. Haggen's has an in-store Starbucks and bathrooms. Please take care of all of that so we are ready to go at 9:30.
Exit from Haggen's parking lot, turning right on Black Lake Boulevard. In 3.5 miles the road turns right to become 62nd Avenue. Keep on 62nd Avenue for 0.7 miles to a stop sign. Here, turn right on Delphi Road. In about two miles, turn left into the McLane Creek Nature Trail access road. Proceed to the parking area loop at the end of road, veering right into the parking lot. Meet at the pavilion. Discover Pass is required. Carpooling is encouraged.
Alternate meet-up at the trailhead. Be there by 9:45. Those planning to meet at the trailhead, please notify the Primary Trip Leader in advance.
