Qualifying conditioning hike for Basic Alpine students looking to satisfy their preliminary requirement for the winter overnight. Mailbox is a shorter and steeper option than Si for those looking for a challenge in their qualifier. We will have a leader and a sweeper, but you are required to manage your own navigation. Please be familiar with the trail if you choose this as your conditioner. You are welcome to use whatever variety of weight you would like but you must carry all of the essentials from the required equipment list in addition to the weight of your choosing (water, iron, sand, etc.) to total the weight minimum.

30lbs minimum
2 hours 15 minutes - sign to box
(2.7mi+3,900') = (54min+78min=132min) = 2:15 with favorable rounding

Packs will be weighed in the parking lot before departure. It is recommended to have spare weight to add last minute if you are under weigh in as opposed to being disqualified. Stopwatch starts at the sign for the old trail (to exclude the road walk) and ends when you touch the box. We will hike down as a group after the cutoff has been eclipsed and collect anyone who has exceeded their time on the way down.

Please email to request activity permissions.
