Day Hike - Frye Cove County Park
We'll hike two loops for two miles in a county park on Steamboat Island peninsula. Lots of short ups and downs for elevation gain. Forested with hundred-year-old Doug fir, big leaf maple and red cedar. Walk the shore of Eld Inlet. Easy to moderate workout at a social pace.

Steamboat Island peninsula is on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, a short drive from Olympia. If you are rehabbing an injury, trying to get back in shape, or just looking for a low intensity work-out outdoors, this hike may be for you. This hike combines old forest (generally 100+ years, a transitional ecological status prior to becoming "old growth") and a walk near the shore of Eld Inlet.
Meet Wednesday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. Leader will email details to registered participants a day or two before the hike.
To reach Frye Cove County Park from Highway 101 (north or south bound) take the Steamboat Island Road NW exit. The Steamboat Island Road NW exit is about 7 miles north of Olympia and about 13 miles south of Shelton. Go north on Steamboat Island Road NW about 5.8 miles and turn right onto Young Road NW. Proceed about 2 miles, turning left on Boardman Rd through the Maple Shores housing development to a stop sign at 61st Avenue NW; turn left through the gate into Frye Cove County Park. There are signs for the park along the route.
