We will take the old railroad grade into the coal-mining ghost town of Franklin. The walk to the town is easy with gentle elevation gain of 200 feet. Once at the town, we'll explore the numerous remnants that are nearly 100 years old! There is also a narrow trail going to the powerhouse and nearby cemetery. Since it's Halloween, kids can wear their costumes. This is a hike for kids with their families.
Please note that you will need to complete the youth information forms to attend per the Mountaineers website. We realize the forms are someone tedious especially for a day hike, but they are good for the entire year once completed and can be used for any youth Mountaineers activity. We are working to find a solution that will expedite sign ups. Thank you for your understanding.
TBD by trip leader. This will be a morning activity (9:30-10ish start time)
