Day Hike - First & Second Burroughs Mountain

Afternoon and evening hike to Second Burroughs to see and photograph the sunset and night sky/Milky Way! Experience alpenglow and the Milky Way core over Mt. Rainier! All sunset and night sky enthusiasts are welcomed. Fully vaccinated or test negative participants only.

Meeting place and time

Meeting place for carpooling TBD depending on participant's locations. We will start our hike at the Sunrise parking lot in Mt. Rainier National Park at around 4:00PM. Details will be sent prior to the event.

Leader's notes

The plan is to start hiking from the Sunrise parking lot by 4:00PM and reach Second Burroughs to set up before sunset (6:48PM). We will enjoy the sunset and stay for about an hour after the moon sets (9:15PM). We will hike out with headlamps and hope to reach the cars around midnight so do not plan to be back home until the early hours of Saturday.

Because we will need to hike out in the dark, this hike is only suitable for experienced hikers. If your Mountaineers profile does not reflect at least moderate hiking experience, please send the Leader an email describing your hiking experience outside of the Mountaineers.

Please send proof of vaccination or provide evidence of a negative test on day of event.

This trip is dependent on weather conditions. An alternate destination may or may not be offered in case of inclement weather.
