9:00 AM at Sharpe Park
We will start our day at Sharpe Park/Montgomery Duban Headlands, an incredibly beautiful county park filled with forests, wetlands, rocky bluffs, and spectacular views. We will then move on to Deception Pass State Park for some of the best coastline hiking in the Pacific Northwest. This hike will be about 7.5 miles in length with approximately 1700 feet of elevation gain. We will be hiking at a brisk/fast pace, which means traveling a minimum of three miles per hour on flat terrain. Please do not register for this hike if you cannot hike at this pace. Here are the directions to the Sharpe Park/Montgomery Duban Headlands trailhead: From Seattle, take I-5 North. Once you get past Mount Vernon, start looking for exit 230; this is the exit for Highway 20. You will need to take exit 230 and take a left at the stop light; you will then travel west on Highway 20 for approximately 11 miles. As you approach Anacortes, take a left at the sign for Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, Deception Pass. You will then travel south on Highway 20 for approximately five miles towards Deception Pass. You will see the sign for Deception Pass State Park on your right - turn right; this is Rosario Road. Follow Rosario Road for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 miles to the trailhead for Sharpe Park/Montgomery Duban Headlands Park; the trailhead will be on your left (watch for the giant dragonfly).
