Previous climbing experience required for participation. Qualified Mountaineers members and non-members are welcome.  Contact trip leader (Rob Busack) for permission to participate.

We'll use Mountaineers Dome both Saturday and Sunday, camping overnight at a local campground.  Sunday will build on top of what we practice on Saturday.

Prerequisites for this trip:

  • Previous experience leading on bolts.
  • A current WFA or similar first aid certification.
  • At least some training in rescue methods for high-angle terrain.
  • Read the book "Rock Climbing Anchors" by Craig Luebben OR "Climbing Anchors" by John Long.

What we plan to practice on this trip:

  • Making & evaluating solid placements of traditional rock protection (nuts, cams, etc.) while standing safely at ground level.
  • Rigging multipoint belay anchors (cordelette, etc.)
  • Mock-leads, where pro is placed as if leading, but a top-rope backup is in place.
  • When ready, leading on trad gear for real (no top-rope backup.)
  • Go through the motions of swinging leads on a multipitch route (this may be somewhat contrived, given that Mountaineers Dome has no officially-multipitch routes)

Carpooling meeting place is TBD for now.   (Probably 65th St. P&R in Seattle sometime before dawn Saturday morning)  Once out in Leavenworth, we'll spend most of our time at Mountaineers Dome.
