This is a one day climb of Mt Baker via the Coleman/Deming Glacier on Saturday 07/27/2024 – about 13 miles and 7,100' of elevation gain. There will be 6 people max on this trip. I’m estimating: 8-9 hours to the summit and 6-7 hours to descend based on having done this route twice previously as a 1-day climb. Most of the elevation gain will occur while roped up on the glacier. Efficient travel on moderate snow/mixed snow and rock slopes with crampons is critical. Participants should be confident of their ability to complete the mileage and elevation gain noted in a timely manner with a climbing-weight pack.
E-mail leader for permission to register using the blue “request leader permission” button. Please tell me what climbs/scrambles/conditioners, etc you've been doing over the last 2 months to know you are prepared for this climb. Please confirm you meet the fitness standard.
Fitness - are you ready? All participants must meet fitness standard: Hike Mt Si trail carrying 25 lbs in less than 2 hours OR hike Cable Line trail to summit of West Tiger 3 carrying 30 lbs in less than 1:15. Effective rate of ascent for each is about 1600 vertical feet per hour. Please state that you currently meet this standard when requesting permission to register.
The timing of this climb is similar to a standard glacier climb; we just don’t set up camp. The plan is to be on the glacier very early in the morning, enjoying the sunrise as we ascend. And be back to the TH in time for a daylight drive home
