Backpack - Stevens Canyon Maple Creek Mt. Rainier National Park

Leader's notes An easy hike on the Wonderland Trail that is suitable for beginning backpackers. After setting up camp at the Maple Creek campground, we'll hike up the canyon to Sylvia and possibly Martha Falls Saturday afternoon (800' elevation gain). Sunday day hike to Nickel Creek Camp (6.2 mi. RT, 640' gain), with optional hike up to the Cowlitz Divide for those wanting a more vigorous hike (1440', 4 mi.). Maple Creek is at a low elevation so snow will not be a problem in July. Nominally we will meet at he Box Canyon Picnic Area, but more likely we will meet at Longmire to minimize the number of cars at the trailhead.
