9/5/2022 Update -- See detailed trip sheet.

This is a high-Cascades ramble on the east side of the crest through territory that features craggy peaks, several passes and high lakes as well as a remote headwater meadow under Seven Fingered Jack.   There will be some exploratory sections that could involve considerable route-finding and pushing through poor trail conditions, though the leader will keep in touch with rangers and trip reports in advance to tune up our route.  WTA trail crews have been working recently in the area.  The Gaia route (approximately) can be found at  https://www.gaiagps.com/public/10if7PXLDOisrPkaDg9NyJux

This trip is aimed for experienced and fit backpackers, a reward for a season well spent!  Days are very strenuous, up to 14 miles (downhill, last day) and over 4000' of gain (day 2, 10 miles).    Leader permission is required and participants will need to demonstrate recent experience with similar difficulty level as well as comfort with route-finding and steep scree descents.  Participants will need to know how to pack for fall conditions while keeping their pack light (base weight under 18lbs, total weight <30lbs with food and 2L water).   This is a group trip and the leader expects participants to stay together on the trail, actively engage with each other, and support each other on the trail.

Spots will NOT be allocated first-come-first-served;  I will collect permission requests for 2 weeks after the trip opens and grant spots to the most qualified after that period ends.  The more specific details that you can provide in your permission request about your recent group backpacking experience at a similar difficulty level, your typical pack weight,  and your comfort with route-finding and steep rugged terrain, the more likely that you will get a spot.

See revised  trip sheet. Meeting at 11 am at Sol Duc Trailhead.
