Alpine Scramble - Mount Ellinor

This is a good first snow scramble for students. We will spend time practicing self-arrest and other snow skills. If conditions are right, there is excellent glissading on this peak.

  • Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,270 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,944 ft

This trip is for students who have not yet done a snow scramble.   The pace will be slow to moderate.

Recent reports indicate that the road to the trailhead is pretty rough, so this trip will depend on our having enough high-clearance vehicles to get us all there.

This is a beautiful trip with great views over Hood Canal and on to the Cascades as well as into the interior of the Olympics.  Unfortunately, it has become so popular that I'm not willing to do it on a weekend anymore.

If you would like to be an assistant leader, let me know, especially if you are interested in becoming a scramble leader.

Hoodsport Visitor Information Center at 8:00 am.
