This itinerary is contingent on us getting permits for Swimming Bear Lake, Cat Basin, Bruce's Roost or another backcountry site in Olympic National Park. (This is also the main reason for the small group size.)

Friday, July 26: Sol Duc to Appleton Pass Trail to Appleton Pass. Primitive trail to Swimming Bear Lake via Spread Eagle Pass. Camp at Swimming Bear Lake. (10mi, 5000ft)

Saturday, July 27: Swimming Bear to Mount Carrie via the infamous catwalk (9mi, about 3000ft). This will take all day because of the catwalk. We can do Cat Peak on the way back if there's time and people are interested, or go back and have a dip in Swimming Bear.

Sunday, July 28: Out via Heart Lake and Sol Duc Park trail with a bathroom stop and dip in Heart Lake. (12mi, down about 4000ft). Optional dinner in Port Angeles.

Sol Duc River Trailhead 7:30 a.m.

(May be space for people to couch surf or sleep in their cars in our driveway in Port Angeles Thursday night.)
