This is pretty much a 7 mile round trip trail hike, with a super fun rock scramble at the top! The scramble is listed as a T3 due to the many great holds and how solid the rock is. However, the exposure can be spooky to some pushing the T4 level. But because of how solid the rock is, this is actually a great scramble for someone looking to gain more confidence with exposure.
There are multiple snow gullies along the trail that are melting out. Some can be crossed easily but recent trip reports states there is one that we have to go around. Also this trail is known for its mosquitoes so breaks will be limited/short. We will stick to a moderate 2-2.5 mph trail pace up.
Wet weather will cancel.
8am Dirty Harry's Balcony Trailhead. Discover Pass required to park at DHB trailhead, NW Forest pass required for drivers to McClellan Butte upper trailhead.
We will consolidate cars here and carpool up for the short drive up a forest road to the upper trailhead, which shaves off a mile of hiking each way!
