this session will be primarily presented in a lecture format. 

This session will present an overview of trends in rescue utilization, as well as the innovations in operational tools utilized by rescue teams in the United States to plan for, recognize, and mitigate the impact of both traumatic and operational stress in rescue professionals and teams. Tools include Psychological First Response, the Rescuer Stress Continuum, and incident support methods.

Presenter

Laura McGladrey is a Nurse Practitioner with dual certification, practicing both emergency medicine and psychiatry across the lifespan. She is currently a clinician with the Stress Trauma Adversity Research and Treatment (START) Center and provides trauma support for Law Enforcement, FIRE/Rescue, and austere and wilderness responders. She has a background in humanitarian and wilderness medicine, teaches courses to wilderness medicine providers, and lectures nationally on operational stress & major incidents support. She is the Stress and Resilience advisor for Portland Mountain Rescue and Eldora Ski Patrol, and serves as a consultant to rescue and patrol teams throughout North America. She is the founder, and director of Responder Alliance.
