The Foundations of Leadership & The Foundations of Instruction eLearning Courses

Please read the COURSE PATHWAYS AND BADGES description below. You do not need to complete both pathways. You have the option to complete one or both pathways in coassemble. 

Designed for our current and future volunteer trip leaders and instructors, with a goal of fostering diverse and passionate connections throughout The Mountaineers. This course is for current or aspiring volunteers who are proficient in one or more outdoor activities and are interested in learning more about leading and instructing in the outdoors.

The Foundations of Leadership course is intended to share the foundational principles of leadership that we think are most important for our volunteers. This course provides a practical overview of leadership concepts and definitions with real-life applications. 

The Foundations of Instruction course is intended to share the foundational principles of instruction that we think are most important for our volunteers. This course provides a practical overview of instruction concepts and definitions with real-life applications. 

COURSE ACCESS

Once you’ve registered for this course, you will find instructions on how to access our eLearning website, Coassemble, in the Course Materials section.

COURSE PATHWAY & BADGES

With this course, you will be registered for both the Foundations of Leadership and the Foundations of Instruction courses. Below is a breakdown of each Foundations course and their individual eLearning pathways. Students have the option to complete both of the Foundations courses or opt in to complete only one, all at their own pace.

Both course pathways begins with the base course and culminates with a final quiz after each module. Once you pass all of the final quizzes, you will be awarded either the Foundations of Leadership Course Badge or the Foundations of Instruction Course Badge, or both depending on the pathway(s) of choice.

Foundations of Leadership Course Pathway

  • Completion of the Foundations Base Course - only need to take once
    • Foundations of Risk Management
    • Foundations of Equity & Inclusion
  • Completion of the Foundations of Leadership Course
    • Foundations of Admin & Logistics 
    • Foundations of Group Facilitation
  • Passing score for all of the module final quizzes

Foundations of Instruction Course Pathway

  • Completion of the Foundations Base Course - only need to take once
    • Foundations of Risk Management
    • Foundations of Equity & Inclusion
  • Completion of the Foundations of Instruction Course
    • Foundations of Education & Instruction
  • Passing score for all of the module final quizzes

Upon completion, it may take one to two weeks to be marked as a Graduate and awarded the course badge. If after two weeks you have not received the badge, please reach out to Member Services at info@mountaineers.org. Thank you for your patience!
