The Mountaineers Join the Effort to Save Lake Serene – And You Can Too!

Lands adjacent to the Lake Serene Trail are slated to be logged this year. If the plan goes through, the routes to Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls will be closed until July 1, 2018 and the surrounding forest will be scarred for many years to come. But there’s hope. Outdoor leaders, including The Mountaineers, are joining forces with individuals across the Pacific Northwest to purchase the land from the timber company. Together we can raise the funds, but we aren’t there yet – and we need your help!

Save Lake Serene

Here’s what it's going to take: The timber company Weyerhaeuser has agreed to sell the land at market rate. Snohomish County has put up $405,000, and our partners at Forterra are working to raise the funds to make up the difference. A Seattle couple contributed a $75,000 challenge grant, which means every contribution up to that amount will be matched dollar for dollar. The deadline is October 30, so it’s crunch time.

What’s at Stake

Nothing says Pacific Northwest like pristine lakes and plunging waterfalls in an alpine setting. Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls are the crème de la crème, allowing hikers to experience both as they venture into the Central Cascades.

Easily accessible from the greater Puget Sound area, the trail provides newcomers with an achievable day trip that can inspire a lifelong passion for the outdoors. On top of that, the trail contributes to Snohomish County’s outdoor recreation economy which generates $1.2 billion a year. At The Mountaineers, we believe this trail is so important that we contributed $1,000 to the cause. Please join us in protecting this iconic landscape.
