About An Evening of Advocacy
Since 2019, The Mountaineers has gathered annually to raise awareness and funds for our donor-supported conservation and advocacy work. Each year, we center the event around a pressing conservation issue, and invite leaders and advocates to engage in insightful discussion to broaden knowledge, support advocacy, and elevate solutions.
2025 Program: Defending Our Public Lands
This year, our public lands have faced a ceaseless wave of attacks. From staffing cuts to proposed sell-offs, the places we love are under threat from the administration and Congress like never before. Drastic cuts to the federal land manager workforce, attempts to sell off public lands, and roll back conservation protections require the outdoor community to mobilize our collective advocacy to meet this critical moment.
Join us to hear from policy experts about the latest threats to federal public lands, creative ways that The Mountaineers and our partners are making a difference, and how you can most effectively use your voice to protect the outdoors. The program will feature an intimate, insider conversation with plenty of time for your questions.
The evening’s panel includes:
- Shawn Bills, State Director, Office of U.S. Senator Patty Murray
- Vicki Christiansen, former Chief of the U.S. Forest Service
- Louis Geltman, Vice President for Policy and Government Relations, Outdoor Alliance
- Moderated by Betsy Robblee, Conservation & Advocacy Director, The Mountaineers

Evening Schedule
6-7pm
Reception, Dinner & Drinks
The evening will kick off with a reception, featuring a locally and seasonally sourced dinner. The reception will also include alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages provided by our event sponsors Ghostfish Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, Seattle Cider, and Tinte Cellars.
7:15-8:30pm
Main Program - Defending Our Public Lands
Following the reception, the program will focus on regional and national impacts to our national forests and other public lands from staffing cuts, chronic underfunding, and proposed sell offs.
8:30pm
Pledge of Support
The evening will conclude with an invitation to support The Mountaineers conservation and advocacy work through philanthropic support. We aim to raise $30,000 through ticket sales and pledged support.
Support Our Conservation AND Advocacy Work
For nearly 120 years, The Mountaineers have led conservation and advocacy in the PNW. From advocating to secure the protection of millions of acres of public lands to leading successful campaigns to preserve iconic natural wonders like the Olympic and North Cascades National Parks, The Mountaineers inspire outdoor enthusiasts to steward the lands where we all recreate. We achieve our work by building relationships with policymakers, land managers, and the outdoor community to mobilize support and engage in critical partnerships that amplify our voice for conservation and responsible recreation.
Your support is the bedrock of this vital work, enabling us to undertake ambitious new initiatives and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
Funds raised through An Evening of Advocacy event ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations will support our advocacy efforts to conserve the natural world for future generations. This year we seek to raise $30,000!
At this critical moment for the outdoors, we invite you to gather with fellow advocates and raise your voice for the places we cherish - so that future generations of Mountaineers can continue to enjoy the wonders of nature across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We look forward to seeing you on September 18. And, if you would like to support our conservation and advocacy work, but cannot attend this year's event, please consider a 100% tax-deductible donation in lieu of attending.
