This ski trip is intended for Intermediate and Advanced x-c classic skiers who have the necessary ski skill set to ski at a steady and continuous pace, and  keep up with the group on intermediate and advanced trails for 5+ hours.  This trip is not suitable for any level of beginner skiers. We will set steady, continuous pace, taking breaks when needed.

Mt. Spokane State Park Description

Mt. Spokane Nordic Ski Association     https://www.spokanenordic.org

Mt. Spokane Nordic Ski Trail Map: https://www.spokanenordic.org/trail-map

The Mt. Spokane has a very large and expertly groomed  Nordic Ski Park with set  classic tracks and a wide skating trail on every easy, intermediate, and advanced trail in the park.  I think it is one of the best ski parks in Washington State.

Spend a long weekend skiing the lovely Mt. Spokane Nordic Ski Park. We will ski on mostly intermediate (blue) and advanced (black) groomed ski trails. We will have some recovery on easy trails (green). Intermediate ski skills of gliding, climbing and descending steeper groomed trails including wedge turns are required.

All vehicles taken to the trailhead will require a WA State Snopark Pass. There is no additional trail fee. For additional information and questions contact the trip leader (add email)

The trip will be led by Cheri Solien. Please direct questions to Cheri at csolien@gmail.com. Further information will be emailed as soon as registration closes on Jan 11.

SATURDAY NIGHT GET-TOGETHER: On Saturday, January 18th we will meet in Kendal Yards for drinks, dinner and conversation at 6:30 pm. Participants are responsible for their own meals and drinks. Restaurant to be determined.

Kendal Yards is just north of the Spokane River in downtown Spokane. It's worth a visit. It's the area of the former turn-of-the century Spokane Rail Road Yard that has been reconfigured into a vibrant part of the downtown scene.  It is also near the new Hotel Zone right across the Spokane River, also on the North Side opposite the city center. The scenery includes a view of the river, River Front Park and  Spokane's skyline of historical old beautiful brick buildings.  Also, the Hotel Zone connects to River Front Park, which is Spokane's old World Fair Expo '76 park site.

RENTALS, AND OUTFITTING DEALS

In Spokane, the three major retailers for Cross-Country gear rental and purchase are Fitness Fanatics, Mountain Gear and REI.

Fitness Fanatics also offers rentals at the Ski Park, which you can reserve online via the link below.

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS

I recommend staying in either VRBOs on the South Hill or Kendal Yards or in a downtown Spokane hotel  as there are many hotel choices and quality restaurants to choose from. For lodging options, check out this website: https://www.visitspokane.com/hotels/

The hotel zone nearest North Division Street on the north side of the river next to Riverfront Park is most convenient to driving the 45-60 minutes out to Mt. Spokane. There are many hotel choices right next to N. Division and the Spokane River. Look at ones with just a few floors as you want a hotel convenient to hauling in your ski gear from your car. Many of the hotels have multiple floors but provide luggage carts for getting your gear up to your room. Some lodging providers require 2-day minimum stay over weekends.

There are lots of great, reasonably priced VRBO's on the South Hill and in Kendall Yards. Registered skiers can choose to communicate with each other about shared rental housing opportunities for this Spokane Winter Weekend.
