Rock Gardening Clinic - Hobuck Beach

Rock Garden Safety and Rescue

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.0 nm

Meet on Hobuck beach in front of the campground and be ready to launch at 8:00 am. We will *plan* to return around 3.

Participants for this clinic should also be signed up for the Surf Zone and Beyond week at Hobuck Beach.  Rock gardening is a fun way to build skills and expand your experiences along the coast. In this clinic, we will focus on:

  1. How to travel as a group and stay together (harder than you think in rocks!)
  2. How to assess a rock feature and decide if it is fun and safe to play
  3. How to set a safety circuit so that needed help is always in the right position
  4. Rescues in the rocks. Performing rescues in rock with the dynamic of the surf and the features can be complex. We will practice for many different scenarios that could arise.
  5. Moving safely through rock features - protecting shoulders, faces, etc
  6. How to maximize your fun in rocks!

We will travel from Hobuck to Anderson point which is a relatively short paddle.
