Help Bring Solar to the Tacoma Program Center with the EVO Program

Tacoma residents are invited to participate in the Tacoma Public Utilities’ Evergreen Options Program (EVO), supporting renewable energy in the region. Participation in the program also allows residents to vote for The Mountaineers $50K EVO grant application to help fund Phase 3 of our NetZero Energy Project for the Tacoma Program Center.

Help Bring Solar to the Tacoma Program Center with the EVO Program
Tacoma Program Center

Are you a Tacoma Mountaineer interested in supporting renewable energy in our region, or eco-friendly renovations for the Tacoma Program Center?

Consider participating in the Evergreen Options (EVO) Program! EVO is a Tacoma Public Utilities program that allows Tacoma residents to invest in renewable energy for as little as $3 a month. Participants also have the ability to vote on annual grant applications from across the Tacoma community, including those from The Mountaineers.

In 2021, The Mountaineers will rely on EVO customers to say YES to our application to install a solar PV system at the Tacoma Program Center. That’s what makes your EVO participation vitally important, if you are a Tacoma resident and TPU ratepayer.

This August, leaders in The Mountaineers submitted an EVO Grant proposal. If successful, this grant will provide funding to complete our NetZero Energy Project, a three-part plan to make the Tacoma Program Center carbon-neutral. Two grants of $50,000 each are available in 2021, and voting will take place this fall. Will you help us get over the finish line by signing up for EVO and submitting your vote?

How it works

EVO participants voluntarily add a percent-of-use charge or a fixed monthly fee of as little as $3 to their electricity bills. This in turn supports the development of alternative energies like wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass in western Washington.

Mountaineers members have already donated substantial amounts toward Phases 1 and 2 of the NetZero Project, first converting conventional lighting to LEDs and currently replacing fossil-fueled appliances. Thanks to all of you and our members who offered significant matching funds, The Mountaineers have met our $31,000 fundraising goal for Phase 2! An Evergreen Options Grant would enable us to achieve Phase 3, installing a solar photovoltaic system at the Tacoma Program Center. Although we were not chosen to receive last year’s EVO Grant, we have worked together this summer to revise our statements and bring our NetZero Project closer to fulfillment.

With your support - and your EVO Grant vote - we can get our NetZero Energy Project over the finish line!
