This badge represents successful completion of The Qualified Youth Leader Training Course, a background check and basic education about mandatory reporting, child abuse/neglect, and principles of safe supervision.

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS

The holder of this badge has demonstrated sound judgment, strong leadership skills, and technical proficiency in:

    • Principles of safe supervision of those under 18 years old
    • Understanding the need to recognize and report signs of child abuse/neglect
    • The dynamics of leadership principles as applied to youth and children

    WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

    This badge allows you to participate in trips and activities for The Mountaineers that involve youth.

    HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

    To become a Qualified Youth Leader, you must read The Qualified Youth Leader & Youth in Adult Programs Handbooks, Enroll in the Qualified Youth Leader Course and pass a short quiz that allows you to demonstrate your understanding of our youth policies, and complete a criminal background check. Please note that this badge expires after 3 years. To renew this badge you will need to retake the Qualified Youth Leader training and resubmit for a background check.
