- Knows how hiking trails should properly shed water
- Identifies water and drainage problems
- Selects and employs efficient and effective drainage techniques
- Constructs proper drainage, coaches others in constructing drainage features, and repairs ineffective and wet trails
- Knows the proper and most common (readily available) trail drainage tools and materials, and shows others how to use these tools effectively and safely
