Mentor Urban Walk Leader

The holder of this badge has been approved as a Mentor Urban Walk Leader for the Mountaineers.
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
A mentor urban walk leader is responsible for guiding and evaluating a mentee urban walk leader as part of the new leader qualification process. This includes, but is not limited to, accompanying the mentee leader on one or more mentored urban walks where the mentee is largely in charge of the trip. The mentor observes the mentee’s performance, and reports back to the mentee’s Urban Walk Committee.
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
Qualifications and prerequisites for becoming a mentor urban walk leader vary by branch.
Leaders shall meet the following requirement to earn their Urban Walk Mentor Badge:
- Be a Mountaineers member in good standing
- Be an active Urban Walk Leader for at least one year in good standing with an Urban Walks Committee
- Good standing includes:
- Current Adult First Aid including CPR
- Current On-trail/Off-trail (Wilderness) Navigation Badge
- Current Stewardship Credit Badge (Seattle-only)
- Lead six or more urban walks as primary or co-leader the past two years (with an urban walks leader who has led a minimum of six urban walk trips in the last two years, which can be a mix of at least four open and up to two can be course walks)
- Have successfully led two mentored trips as a provisional mentored leader, approved by a committee officer.

An urban walk leader interested in becoming a mentored leader should contact their Branch Urban Walk Committee Chair to apply to become a mentored leader.
